Afterword is a personal legacy planning service operated by En Vivant Pty Ltd, based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. We help individuals plan, store, and deliver messages, letters, gifts, and other meaningful items to their chosen recipients at future dates or upon their passing.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide directly

• Account information: Your full name, email address, and password when you create an account.
• Plan and legacy content: Journal entries, letters, video messages, voice recordings, photos, and any other content you upload as part of your Afterword plan.
• Recipient information: Names, email addresses, postal addresses, and other contact details of the people you nominate to receive your messages or gifts.
• Executor information: Name, email address, and contact details of your nominated executor.
• Payment information: We use Stripe to process payments. We do not store your full card details — Stripe holds this data under their own privacy policy.
• Heirloom items: If you subscribe to the Heirloom plan, we may receive and store physical items you send to us, along with a description of those items.
• Enquiry information: Any information you provide when contacting us, submitting an Aurora inquiry form, or booking a consultation.

• Browser type, device information, and IP address
• Pages visited and time spent on our website
• Referring URL and session data

3. How we use your information

We collect and use your personal information for the following purposes:

• To create and manage your Afterword account
• To store, maintain, and ultimately deliver your legacy content and gifts in accordance with your instructions
• To conduct annual check-in calls to keep your plan current
• To verify activation of your plan through your executor
• To process payments and send receipts
• To communicate with you about your account, your plan, and any service updates
• To respond to your enquiries and provide customer support
• To meet our legal obligations under Australian law
• To improve our services and website

We will not use your information for direct marketing without your consent. We will never sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Storage and security

Your data is stored using Supabase, hosted in the Asia-Pacific region (Sydney). We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and authentication to protect your personal information.

Your legacy content — the most sensitive data we hold — is held in secured, access-controlled storage. Access is restricted to authorised Afterword personnel and only for the purpose of plan management and execution.

Physical items stored under the Heirloom plan are held in secure, climate-stable storage. We maintain records of all items received and their condition at intake.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we take all reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Disclosure to third parties

We may share your personal information with:

• Sub-processors: Third-party service providers who assist us in operating our platform, subject to confidentiality obligations and within the limits of applicable law. These may include cloud infrastructure providers, email service providers, and payment processors. We take reasonable steps to ensure sub-processors maintain appropriate privacy standards.
• Your executor: When your plan is activated, we will share relevant plan details with your nominated executor as required to carry out your wishes.
• Trustee firm: In the event of a service continuity event, your plan information may be disclosed to our nominated trustee firm solely for the purpose of honouring your plan.
• Law enforcement or regulators: If required by law, legal process, or a government authority.

We will not disclose your legacy content to recipients until the activation conditions you have set are met and verified.

6. Overseas disclosure

Some of our sub-processors may be located or operate infrastructure outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles. By using Afterword, you consent to your personal information being processed in accordance with this policy, including where necessary by overseas sub-processors.

7. Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy. Specifically:

• Active plans: Your account and all legacy content are retained indefinitely while your plan is active, as they may be needed for future delivery.
• Cancelled plans: Upon cancellation, we retain your account data for 7 years for legal and accounting compliance, after which it is securely deleted.
• Executed plans: Following full execution of your plan, we retain a record of delivery for 7 years, then securely delete all personal content.
• Heirloom items: Physical items are dispatched upon plan execution. In the event of cancellation, items are returned to you (or to a nominated address) at your cost within 30 days of cancellation.
• Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required under Australian tax law.

8. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or misleading
• Complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles

9. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to improve your browsing experience and analyse site traffic. These include session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which remain for a set period). You may disable cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect some functionality of our website.

We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies or share data with advertising networks.

10. Children's privacy

Our service is intended for individuals aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us immediately at [email protected].
